Any tradeskill class with the proper books can put shard armor together. It just so happens that my beloved iksar is an armorer.

You can make quite a bit of money putting shard armor together (using tradeskill commission system). As with most other Norrathian things, when it first came out not as many had the books so it was easier to rack up plat. These days you will see a couple of people say in chat channel making shard armor for tips. I don't usually say something in channel, usually when people need it done, they ask for it in chat channel or I get the job through referral. Making it for tips is the best way to go though. It doesn't make you seem greedy and although sometimes you might feel like you got jipped on the tips, other times you will make quite the handsome profit.

So how do you get these nifty recipe books and why should people bother getting them done by other players? For the recipe books you will need to do the quest "Ship Out" in Moors of Ykesha. You can get the quest at 60sth but the shard recipes are 77plus if I remember correctly. Once you have ship out quest done, head on over to Isle of Mara. You will then be able to get group missions. You don't want the solo missions for this, they don't give you the books. You can solo group missions, I have, many of them, but it will take you a couple hours or more. Those missions have the chance to drop the book you need (and there are four books in total), and they don't always drop any book of course. Books are heirloom so you can trade them beetween toons on your own account (that the toon that gets the book is on) only.

I have all the four recipe books and it was worth the time. You save shards and plat getting it done yourself or having someone do it for you. This you can do up to tier 2 shard armor. After that, you have to suck it up and take your shards, mold (yes the higher ones use molds) and hard earned plat to the different shard merchants.
